Renters, listed buildings, leasehold flats with a firm no on external units; homes where a real cooling problem needs a real product and a fixed split is not on the table.
Wrong for
Any home that could install a wall-mounted split; the running cost, the noise floor and the window kit all pull in the wrong direction if a fixed unit is a live option.

Cooling output is real, not theatre.
The unit's rated output sits at the useful end of the portable class; well matched to a bedroom or study up to about fifteen square metres, provided the exhaust hose is routed sensibly through a window kit or wall port.

Noise floor is portable-typical, which is loud.
Portables sit around forty-five to fifty decibels A-weighted in normal operation; roughly twenty-five decibels above a good split, and above the level that most people can sleep through without habituation.

Single-hose portables draw warm air back into the room as they work; the effective efficiency is well below the label figure. In a UK cooling season this reads as a real, not theoretical, cost penalty.
