Vaillant is the brand a competent UK heat pump installer will quote you first in 2026, and the aroTHERM plus is the reason. It runs R290 propane so it will actually deliver 60 to 70 degree flow temperatures without collapsing efficiency on a January morning; it commissions cleanly on weather compensation rather than fighting the installer; and the parts network is the deepest in the segment. Where we would push back is on the price and the controls interface. The sensoCOMFORT screen still feels engineered rather than designed, and the premium over Samsung and Panasonic is real. If your installer knows Vaillant, this is the safest specification available; if they do not, do not let them learn on your house.

The aroTHERM plus is the only mainstream residential heat pump we have seen commission cleanly on the retrofits where the radiators were not fully resized. That is the situation most UK retrofits are actually in, and the pairing of R290 chemistry with a mature UK installer network is what makes the brand the default. The premium is real; it earns its place when the install is complex and evaporates when the install is simple.
