What makes the payback work

Roof orientation, pitch and shading set the annual yield more than panel brand. A clear south-facing roof outperforms a shaded south-facing roof every time.
How much of it you actually use
Daytime consumption that lines up with daytime generation pays back fastest. A heat pump, an EV or a battery turns spilled exports into useful electricity at home.
How long until the maths flips
Add the export tariff, subtract the install cost, and the system reaches break-even somewhere between year eight and year twelve for most UK homes. After that, generation is essentially free.
